HISTORY

SGCCP, now has a total of 980 members including 345 civil members from Chittagong elites/businessman and others Armed Forces members from Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force. The number of membership is increasing everyday. Approximately ten to fifteen golf tournaments are conducted every year, some of which also encompass ladies tournament with the gracious sponsorship of different renowned organizations. A substantial number of foreigners and retired civil-military officers are regular playing members of this club.

Shaheen Golf and Country Club, Patenga (SGCCP), Chittagong is located at a place of scenic beauty by the side of the river ‘The Karnaphuli and near by Shah Amanat International Airport, Chittagong. SGCCP started its modest journey in the year of 2002 and established as a full-fledged 9 hole Golf Course within a short span of time by dint of sincere and arduous works by some dedicated Air Force officers under the auspices of Air Force leadership. The Club was earlier known as BAF (Bangladesh Air Force) Golf Club and later renamed as Shaheen Golf and Country Club Patenga (SGCCP) Chittagong, to symbolize the Shaheen (eagle) of BAF emblem, since September 2005. The then Chief of Air Staff, BAF inaugurated the Club house on 16 September 2005. The financial and administrative supports of Air Headquarters had been the key source of power to develop the course, however, the unabated wholehearted support of different organization and entrepreneurs also helped develop the course in today’s standard. The course is surrounded by lush green vegetation with magnificent picturesque beauty; a unique place of mental relaxation in serenity and tranquility.

The Course has undergone various reformation/transformation over the years in order to make it more demanding and enjoyable for the golfers. The course is generally flat and some of the greens are raised. A number of water bodies, creeks and bunkers are made to generate artificial hazards and make the course more challenging. Massive development works have been undertaken in last few years to raise this course close to an international standard nine-hole golf course.

Chief of Air Staff, Bangladesh Air Force is the Chief Patron of SGCCP while Air Officer Commanding, BAF Base Zahurul Haque is the President of the club. The club comprises a number of Committees; each committee headed by a Chairman who along with his team members, conducts day to day affairs of the club and also arranges tournaments in a befitting manners.

SGCCP became one of the affiliated members of Bangladesh Golf Federation in 2006. Its famous monument ‘Spirit of Golf’ was inaugurated on 22 January 2011. In 2015-2016, Club renovation work is done. There are additions of lobby and modern restaurant facility with huge hall rooms is made. There is 24 luxuries room building for the guest named “Nilkonthi”. At present, construction work is going on to build an international quality swimming pool.
